Facebook Effectiveness

Social media can make or break an up and coming ski brand. If your comapny can't get brand awareness, how will customers know where and how to buy your product?

So we are going back to the basics to Facebook! But there are some things that we have to look past and learn beyond the norm of just getting as many 'likes' as possible for your company's page. It just won't suffice anymore.

Here are some tips to have a productive Facebook:

1. Be creative, entertaining, and bring some spark into the Facebook page. Take pictures of the latest heli trip to Baldface, the meet and greet at a snowboard premiere, or snapshorts of SIA with the new products and videos from the always entertaining after parties.

2. Don't push product all the time. It gets boring and daunting to hear about product ALL the time. Fans of your product don't necessarily go to your Facebook page to get a product pitch but to have fun.

3. Engage your fans. Have contests, events, or promotions where the fans are involved. Facebook is great in the way that it's easier to converse with people rather than Twitter which is used for links or quick messages. Pro-snowboarder Todd Richards did an amazing job at keeping his friends and fans updated during the Sochi Olympics. He continually posted pictures of the mountain, gave updates on snow conditions, posted pictures of the athletes on and off the snow, and the never ender groans of conditions in the hotels.

4. Keep track of the page's metrics including daily and weekly traffic, traffic types, and average time spend on the page. Looking at the 'like' button numbers isn't a great way to measure who and what people are looking at, but it's nice to see the fan base go up and up. Using Facebook and/or Google Analytics will help your company track and measure what people are into and be able to measure what posts and topics bring the most traffic. Not only can these metrics track what people are into, but they also show what time people are most likely to view different posts; pretty handy huh?

5. Don't be afraid to promote other brands that complement your brand. It's both engaging for the customer and help the ski and snowboard industry in the way of more awareness for what we all love to do. Promote videos or pictures from other pages that you or your company find funny and again engage customers and fans.

When used correctly, Facebook can be an easy and inexpensive way to promote and communicate with fans and customers all over the world about your brand.
